Moon Milk: a Sensual Cacao Rose Elixir

Updated: Aug 20, 2021

Derived from Ancient Ayurvedic Indian medicine, this “miracle” drink is an excellent natural support to prevent various states of discomfort, from joint aches to menstrual pain, up to respiratory infections.

Moon Milk comes from Ayurvedic medicine, a 5,000-year-old holistic practice originating in India, which has been using moon milk to help aid sleep for centuries. Moon Milk is made from a blend of precious Ayurvedic spices including nutmeg, ashwagandha (one of the richest plants with antioxidant properties and better known as Indian ginseng, easily available in herbal shops), cinnamon, pepper and cardamom, honey and hot milk. Traditionally, cow's milk was used, but in this recipe, and for gut health we will be using almond milk, but you can also swap it out for your favorite milk substitute - hemp milk is a great alternative!

Over the next few weeks, I'll be sharing my top three Moon Milk recipes, one that I've been using for almost a month now, it's my soothing night time ritual, my guilty pleasure. One that's an excellent anti-inflammation and detox elixir, and finally a new recipe that I have yet to try. However, I shall be getting the ingredients for it soon enough, so I'll be sure to report back on how it plays out, I have a good feeling.

The first one I'd like to share is one that's so near and dear to my heart. It's one that I've been melting into each night and I'm so happy to finally share it with you! This one is super yummy and is perfect for all you chocolate lovers out there! It is so warming and exquisitely luxurious. Cacao has a plethora of health benefits to boost your immune system and help you manage stress, add the aromatic aesthetic of roses and you have a recipe for a sensual evening in the making!

Sensual Cacao Rose Moon Milk

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup almond milk or other unsweetened nut milk (such as hemp or cashew)

  • 1 bag of Pukka Love Flower Tea

  • 1 teaspoon of cacao powder

  • 1-2 tablespoons of coconut butter

  • 1 dash of cinnamon

  • 1 dash of nutmeg

  • pinch of pink Himalayan sea salt

  • 1 teaspoon of honey, stevia or maple syrup

  • splash of rose water to thin (optional)

  • dried organic rose buds for garnish (optional)

To Prepare:

Bring almond milk to a simmer in a small saucepan over medium-low heat. Reduce heat to low and steep bag of Pukka Love Flower Tea in the milk for 4 minutes. Remove the tea bag and pour milk into a high-speed blender along with the rest of the ingredients. Blend on high until it is smooth and creamy. Pour into a mug, drink warm, and enjoy. Double this recipe and share with a friend. This is a delicious and dare I say simple recipe for your Moon Ceremony.
