Malas & Mantras

Updated: Nov 29, 2022

A mantra is a word, sound, or phrase repeated internally or aloud to aid your concentration while meditating. A mantra can be as simple as the word' love.' I often meditate on qualities I am trying to bring forward in myself, such as grounding, surrender, peace, or release. When we incorporate mantra meditation with our mala necklace or bracelet, we infuse the mantra into the interconnectedness of the beads and string. We quite literally imbue this piece of creation with magic and the power of intention through manifestation.

Finding the right mantra to practice with your mala necklace isn't as difficult as one might think. It just requires a fortifiable moment to stop and ask yourself, "What is my goal or intention?" or "How do I want to feel?" Meditate on whatever comes up for you.

You can also meditate upon affirmations as your mantra, such as 'I Am Enough,' 'I Am Grounded,' or 'I Am Abundant.' It's been proven that you can re-wire your brain to embody these positive qualities when using positive affirmations! If you prefer to use a Sanskrit mantra instead, the phrase 'Om Shanti, Shanti, Shanti' is a beautiful place to start. In Buddhist and Hindu traditions, you chant Shanti three times to represent peace in body, speech, and mind. It means all-encompassing peace. Some folks are fortunate enough to be gifted a mantra by a teacher or guru. But that's not always possible. It is possible, however, to choose a mantra for yourself depending on what you are searching to cultivate for yourself. Whether you're looking for peace, positivity, health, or self-love, or if you want to find balance within your mind, body, and spirit, beginning a meditation practice is one of the most rewarding self-practices you do for yourself. When choosing a mantra, you should consider your innermost motivations for practicing meditation.

At our most recent event, the Dharma Mala Workshop, the malas and mantras were created in conjunction with each guest's unique astrological North Node placement. The North Node of Future Destiny illuminates your soul's most authentic and highest purpose in this lifetime. Combining crystals with intentional mantras is a powerful practice. Below are great alternative mantras for the North Node of Future Destiny for each zodiac sign. Try using these during your meditation practice with your mala necklace.

Mantras for your North Node of Future Destiny:

Aries: "I can help others best by truly being myself."

Taurus: "When I live by my values, I feel good about myself."

Gemini: "When I tune into how others think, I know what to say."

Cancer: "It's ok to let my feelings show."

Leo: "When I follow the impulses of the child within, I win."

Virgo: "When I focus and have a plan, the whole universe opens the pathway to success."

Libra: "When I successfully stimulate confidence in others, we all win."

Scorpio: "Embracing change will lead to vitality."

Sagittarius: "My intuition will show me the right path spontaneously as events occur."

Capricorn: "In releasing the past, I deal more effectively with the present."

Aquarius: "I don't have to dominate others to feel good about myself."

Pisces: "All is well, and everything is unfolding as it should."

Here are a few favorite modern-day mantras:

Endurance/Strength "This too shall pass." Love "I am love." Calmer mind "Smile, breathe, and go slowly." Being present "Be here, now." Allowing the universe to guide you, "I am open to receiving universal gifts." Happiness "Today, I choose joy." Release "Close your eyes, clear your heart, let it go." Empowerment "I am capable of wonderful things."

Some favorite ancient Sanskrit mantras:

Om Namah Shivaya, "I bow to my inner highest self," is a passage to know and understand yourself and dedicate some time to your inner self.

Om Mani Padme Hum "Praise to the Jewel in the Lotus." According to the Dalai Lama, this mantra can transform your impure body, speech, and mind into a Buddha's pure body, address, and mind.

Choose a word that resonates with how you want to feel (the terms below are also in Sanskrit):

Shraddha - Faith Bhakti - Devotion Shanti - Peace Prajna - Wisdom Santosa - Contentment Veda - Knowledge Ananda - Bliss Moksha - Liberation Dharma - Righteous path Prasada - Grace/clarity

Meditation can be challenging enough on its own. Still, adding more intentional practice to your sessions with a mala necklace and intuitive mantras can prove immensely beneficial. You will notice an improvement in the quality of your mindfulness practices which will support your healthy lifestyle. What is your favorite mantra?
