Astrology is all about how the placements of the planets affect us as individuals. Astrocartography takes this concept one step further and maps where the planets were rising and setting all over the world when someone was born. It is the art of using your natal astrology chart and overlaying the cosmic data onto a map of our world.
Astrocartography is how the placements of the planets affect the energies we feel in certain places we live or visit, depending on when and where we were born. Before Lewis developed the art of astrocartography, astrologers would create maps by hand! While the idea of locational astrology was not new, in the 1970s astrologer Jim Lewis took these complex theories and boiled them down into a map of locations by working with angular planets. These are planets located along the axis and fall between two houses. Astrocartography could explain why you're dying to take a solo trip to Bali or why you were drawn to Paris when you chose to study abroad.
Each line links up with a certain celestial body that brings out certain qualities like love, creativity, and growth within up to 700 miles of that line. This is known as the orb of influence. The circles on the map mark the strongest part of the line where that energy is mostly concentrated.
For anyone seeking relaxation, pleasure, and low-stress levels, look at the Sun, Jupiter, and Venus points as they tend to bring harmony or ease into our lives. Conversely, if you prefer to get to work, or perhaps take bold action toward your dreams, you might consider your Mars, Saturn, or Pluto lines. These areas would bring about the most transformation and maybe even be the shakeup you need to come out a better, stronger person on the other side.
When I pulled my own chart, honestly, I was overwhelmed. The map showed several colored lines tracing across the page swooping and curving back in a sort of parabola shape. However, when I zoomed in a little bit to check out my current city of residence, Denver, Colorado, I noticed I had four (4) lines of influence!
The biggest thing that stood out to me was of course my Chiron on my Ascendant (AC). I've lived here for nearly eight (8) years and it's been some of the most challenging, yet inspiring, life-changing, shadow-work-facing years of my life and I wouldn't change it for the world! I honestly feel as though living here has helped me shed so many wounds that held me back from expressing my best and brightest self!
Uranus on my Descendant (DC) has really shaken up my relationships, as the DC relates to what energies we're drawing to ourselves in terms of others i.e. in relationships and friendships. All of the crazy friendships I've made here have been shocking, sudden, and revolutionary in true Uranus fashion if you ask me.
The North Node of Future Destiny on my AC was also another confirming aha moment. Denver is where I began stepping into my truest, unabashed self. I started my first mini business here with Smoking Sanctuary, which was a ladies cannabis and lifestyle community, which eventually morphed into the Heather Namaste podcast and what you see here today with Cosmic Soulchemy. I feel like Denver has opened a lot of doors in helping me reach my soul's purpose.
Pluto on my DC is another testament to the transformations in my friendships. Most of the wild ones have thankfully been transformed, having gone through the phoenix fire to be rebirthed into soul fam. It wasn't easy. Because again, a lot of those relationships were killed off suddenly, and I was left feeling like the Divine lifted me up by the scruff of my neck and booted me out herself!
After reading my astrocartography chart, everything kind of made more sense to me. All those trials and tribulations, tests from the Divine, and everything in between has led me here to this moment in time. Would I be the same person had I stayed in Texas? Probably not. I definitely wouldn't have had the intense planetary influences there that I have here. I probably would still be working some soul-sucking 9-5 job at Best Buy hating my life, just wishing I could do something better.
Remember, I lived in Texas my whole life, and it wasn't until I moved here, that I finally got my Yoga Teacher Certification, I became certified as a Holistic Wellness guide, and have also been certified as a Crystal Reiki Master. Not to mention starting the Heather Namaste podcast, and stepping more profoundly into my role as a luminary with Cosmic Soulchemy. Not to say that Texas is "bad" or has bad juju. In fact, the Chiron on AC, Uranus on DC, and North Node of Future Destiny on AC all still run through Texas within that 700-mile orb! I think the main difference is that, here, I also have Pluto energy stimulating the necessary transformation, as well as all four (4) lines, are much closer together.
The fact that certain places can shift something inside us to inspire, support, or challenge us to grow and transform, is fascinating to me. And it further validates the reasons why people have periods of their life where they just have to uproot and move cities or where the only option seems to be taking an extended break from their home and regular life somewhere far away.
Knowing more about your place in the world could lead to you moving to an exciting new city, starting a course that allows you to flourish, or taking a vacation that changes your perspective on yourself and the world around you.
